Victorians lose big on races
Victorians have lost the most money than ever before on sports and race betting, according to the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation . The Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission Expenditure data  shows gambling expenditure was over 400 million dollars higher in the 2024-25 financial year than 2008-09. Spring Racing attendance down
In 2024, Essential Poll data  found over 52 percent of respondents had little to no interest in Melbourne’s biggest racing event, The Melbourne Cup.  Austadiums  data finds that over the last twenty years, attendance at the Victorian Spring Racing Carnival has fallen by over 70,000 people. Racegoers tear Moonee Valley apart
Chaos unfolded in The Valley’s last race on Saturday, with racegoers tearing down and taking home railings from the racecourse, ahead of a planned upgrade.
