Victorian Labor promises dogs in pubs
By George Podeu.
If the Labor government wins the Victorian state election they have promised to allow dogs into pubs and extend trading hours to 3am.
Dogs in pubs would require amending the 1984 Food Act.
Melbourne hospitality worker Dylan Carver was unsure about the proposal. “I think dogs are a particular issue” and that it would be “quite a nuisance particularly inside of pubs.”
“They run around and there's people carrying heavy trays of drinks, food,” he said.
Regarding the 3am proposal, Carver said “It's good for the workers, I suppose, they're going to make money.”
According to the Victorian premier Ben Carroll, these changes could bring more jobs into the hospitality sector and boost revenue for venues and pubs.
“Pubs know what they are doing, and these are commonsense decisions to let them get on with business” Carroll said.
Currently pubs and venues are allowed to stay open past 1am unless they possess a late-night liquor license, to keep communities quiet and keep public safety risks at a minimum.
The promise from the Labor leader comes ahead of the Victorian election which will take place on the 28th of November.
